Together we create space to explore, tinker, dabble and invent. At Cottonwood, each kid has the opportunity to fulfill his/her own creative ideas every day. We encourage sharing of ideas and interests so that the class can work collaboratively on problem solving and cheer each other towards achievement and understanding. Friendships are highly cherished, as empathy and mutual respect are cornerstones of our school. Building each other up is the heart of the way we interact with one another at Cottonwood

The day starts with a gathering, where we greet each other and set our day. Kids will hear the offerings for the day, such as music/art/cooking/science. Rain or shine or snow or wind, you will find us in the spacious McGolrick Park building forts, playing neighborhood games, and examining nature. In Cottonwood, kids are allowed to get their hands dirty and dive into play and exploration. On afternoons you may find the kids shopping for ingredients for their next cooking project or visiting with the librarian about the right book to answer their questions. The facilitators are happy to guide meaningful conversations, and general principle is that no topic is off-limits if the kids demonstrate genuine curiosity.
