Hi, I'm Coach Geoff!

I speak English.

I speak English.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I've been coaching and educating children for over 8 years and am excited to share my experience with the children of NYC.  Soccer Shots provides a caring environment on and off the field by positively impacting the children through our best in class coaching, curriculum and communication.  By enrolling your child in Soccer Shots, you can expect increased psychomotor development in fun fitness activities, introductions to team dynamics, character formation through life lessons of respect, sharing, development of active lifestyle habits, and individual skill development including coordination, balance and agility.  Our mission is simple: Positively impact children's lives.

What's your philosophy on what it means to be a great teacher?
We believe that the Soccer Shots Curriculum encourages inclusive, child-centered activities, facilitated and encouraged by coaches and families, in a safe, positive, fun and welcoming environment. We believe that all children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively and linguistically, through soccer and play.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming a teacher?
Be open to learning and daily feedback from your peers and students to create the optimum experience for those you are instructing.

In your opinion, what is the role of the live teacher in a world where it is becoming increasingly easy to get access to information through the internet and online courses?
Through the culmination of strong community and relationships, we as humans connect and learn more effectively, which enhances our overall well-being and growth.

How can we, as teachers of children, work to build a society where people are respectful towards each other and the environment?
Through the commitment to leading by example and taking action each day in doing the little things well, consistently and carefully, and compounded together over time.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My 4th Grade Teacher named Mrs. Wright:  After moving to a new school in 4th grade, I felt isolated and didn't have many friends.  She went out of her way to care for me and my development and truly showed she wanted me to succeed.  She believed in me and gave me the confidence that I could achieve anything in life.

Share a teaching memory that had a profound impact on you.
As a coach, I hosted a class a few days before Thanksgiving, where I asked the children (age 4) what they were most thankful for this year.  One of the children in class said how thankful she was to have a coach, because her dad passed away and she misses her dad. It's in times like these that remind me how important our role is in shaping the next generation.

What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management?
Each week at Soccer Shots, we encourage our participants through high-fives, excitement, big smiles, cheers, and specific praise. We do this for positive reinforcement, for encouragement, for celebration and to emphasize the hard work the children have put forth for that session.  We believe the job demands enthusiasm, organization and commitment to our mission, sparking a desire to help, inspire and educate others.

Do you have experience working with children with special needs? If so, please specify.
Yes, we have a specific curriculum for children with special needs.
