Hi, I'm Courtney!
Tell us a little about yourself Hello! My name is Courtney and for the past 5 years I have been teaching art to children ages 2-5 at The Chelsea Day School. I have devised an arts curriculum that engages children emotionally, socially and cognitively. Through play, inquiry and exploration we study our shared community and our place within it. It is my passion to nurture and guide each child's creative development while bringing out the joy, wonder of learning.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management? I believe in creating an environment that is organized and clear to the children. This promotes self regulation and responsibility which fosters respect for ourselves, our friends and the materials in which we are working with.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? My third grade teacher because she inspired me to be extra creative
What's your philosophy on what it means to be a great teacher? I believe a great teacher builds a foundation of thoughtfulness, confidence and excitement about the joy of learning.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming a teacher? To remember that your children will be the ones actually teaching you! In your opinion,
What is the role of the live teacher in a world where it is becoming increasingly easy to get access to information through the internet and online courses? It is so important to development a curious and questioning mind! The teacher needs to keep the curriculum personal to the child's experience. You can't google your own experience.....yet! How can we, as teachers of children, work to build a society where people are respectful towards each other and the environment? We can foster an environment where children develop self confidence, respect for others and patience. Through art, children can learn that not everybody paints something the same way. Through studying our natural environment, children can development compassion.
