Hi, I'm Ms Denise!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. I've been teaching or involved with the special needs population for over 10 years. The student's were wonderful but many times I feel they were limited in the types of opportunities they had to progress in an area of weakness instead at times relied on others which meant gave away their independence. Although Special needs kiddos need an individualized program, because each on has different skills, we as teachers need to introduce interactive programs to help our kiddos to be as independent as possible.
What is your philosophy and approach to behavioral management? I believe in every child there is a reason to their behavior and it is the teachers job to find out what that is through taking baseline data, finding out what triggered the behavior. Too often I have seen where the behavior was reinforced so the student continued to do it. There should be a behavior plan in place once the assessment has been done to address any behavior
Who was your favorite teacher and why? I had a teacher in college for my philosophy class. What I liked about her is that she did a mix of hands on projects, lecture, group projects, and just a whole slew of creative teaching styles. We never just sat in our chairs and took notes.
Do you have experience working with children with special needs? I have over 10 years of working with special needs kids and adults whether it be 1 to 1 or in a classroom situation.
Credentials. I am a certified Special education and Elementary teacher. I also received my certification as a Registered Behavioral Technician
