Hi, I'm Miss Joanna!
Tell us a little bit about your self. I've been drawing, painting and creating since age 6. My journey of discovery and knowledge is always fueled with new and exciting materials, techniques and mediums. Teaching what I learn and helping others understand is rewarding. Being a source of inspiration enlightens me and keeps me on a good path.
What's your philosophy on what it means to be a great teacher? A great teacher is one who is willing to letting discoveries and experiences happen. Doing and exploring all the options. Having fun learning by discovery .
What advice would you give someone considering becoming a teacher? Teaching is very rewarding and fulfilling. Always look for new and exciting ideas to incorporate into your class to keep children inspired.
In your opinion, what is the role of the live teacher in a world where it is becoming increasingly easy to get access to information through the internet and online courses? There is no substituting the real live teacher hands on class. When children are interacting with each other and with the teacher the experience is less like a tv show.
How can we, as teachers of children, work to build a society where people are respectful towards each other and the environment? We start by being how we would like others to be with us. Courteous , respectful , considerate, helpful, attentive and appreciative.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? 7th grade Mrs Lynch home room. She was a mature women who loved history and she would tell us stories. She invited her best students to her home for a luncheon. She was very sweet.
Share a teaching memory that had a profound impact on you. I had 28 children ages 6-7 and they all couldn't speak any English. By the end of the year they were ready for the 2nd grade and were speaking in English.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management? I believe in communication and connecting with a child on an intellectual level.
Do you have experience working with children with special needs? If so, please specify. Yes I've had a few children in my class with Autism.
Are there any projects you’ve done (related or unrelated to teaching) that you’d like to share? Conference House fence show included my class and their artwork was displayed , judged and even prizes awarded to the children.
