Hi, I'm Miles!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. I began by learning graffiti on my own and pursuing street-cred and no degree. I first taught graffiti for a non-profit in 07. Since then I have taught all age groups & 1-on-1, in person and via the net.My youtube has 14,000 followers & 2.3 million views. Art is an avenue for us to explore, observe, discover, cultivate and express ourselves. I take a flowing, responsive and pressure free approach that mirrors NPT and Reggio Emilia. I create a safe space to explore, discover and share. Expressing ourselves is a vulnerable experience. I aim to empower by helping find validation from within.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management? At the core, there has to be compassion, understanding and no judgment about the behavior, while upholding a standard. I empower the child to make their own choices by explaining the effects their behaviors have and allow them to experience natural consequences with an understanding, while making sure to keep the environment fair and safe for others.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? Ms. Maresma, who was there for me at a vulnerable time when i was still learning english and slowly fitting in. I remember feeling safe, accepted, seen and cared for. She expressed words to my mom that i cant exactly remember, about an art project i made, that impacted me so deeply, somehow giving me a feeling that what i create has a deep meaning that others can feel.
