Hi, I'm Mrs. Marsha!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Hi! I'm a teacher in the DC area with many years of experience teaching and mentoring students of all ages. My passion is building confidence, positive self-concept and a love for learning in children.  To accomplish this, students must feel safe and cared for and learning must be fun! My focus is learning through play, storytelling, art and hands-on projects. With me, expect Reggio Emilia inspired learning, STEAM activities, and lots of love!

What's your philosophy on what it means to be a great teacher. To be a great teacher, you must love your students and have a plan for their success. With this, you must be creative and flexible enough to adapt according to the child's needs.

In your opinion, what is the role of the live teacher in a world where it is becoming increasingly easy to get access to information through the internet and online courses? I love the fact that we can access information through the internet and online courses, however, some things only a live teacher can give. Love, affirmation, a warm smile or hug, explanation, and connecting the dots when they don't understand are foundational to a child's success and only available in live human form.

What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management? I use PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. With this approach, student are rewarded as they do the right things rather than reprimanded every time they do something wrong.
