Hi, I'm Ms. Tatiana!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Tatiana Smith, and I am a mother of a homeschooled girl. I always knew that I wanted her to have the best of everything and enjoy all that she had. What I began to see was that even the littlest things fascinated her, and I wanted to capture that fascination. At first, I tried carefully planned out crafts, in the hopes that my own appreciation of art would some- how rub off on her, and she would somehow become an art prodigy. In hindsight, it was a silly notion because a planned project, like a coloring book, does not inspire creativity. It may teach some skills, such as drawing and coloring in lines, but ultimately, we must encourage exploration.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management?
As long as a child is not physically harming another child or himself, I allow the child full freedom and movement within the space. I am against arbitrary rules of control.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teachers were actually my internship mentors in my senior year of high school, who entrusted me enough to work on and deliver work for a big name client. I felt so responsible and mature.
Do you have experience working with children with special needs?
Children with special needs have always been accompanied by parents in my classes.
